Museum policies

To keep the museum open and safe for everyone, we ask that all visitors follow these rules:

  • Wear a mask – Currently the University requires that everyone ages 2+ wear a mask in campus buildings*
  • Limit your group size to no more than 10 people
  • Have your group stick together, and keep six feet apart from other visitors

If you are coming in a group of 10 or more we ask that you contact us in advance to schedule time to come explore the exhibits. Please see the “Tours” page for more details.

We are currently scheduling group visits for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays through the spring. If you would like to avoid groups, we invite you to visit on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Museum hours

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Closed Sundays

Museum location

The Geology Museum is located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. We are located in Weeks Hall at 1215 W. Dayton Street, two blocks east of Camp Randall Stadium on the corner of Charter Street and Dayton Street.

*The University of Wisconsin-Madison has a campus-wide mask mandate in effect until March 1, 2022. This mandate requires all individuals age 2+, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status, to wear an acceptable face covering that is properly fitted to cover the wearer’s nose and mouth, at all times when present in UW-Madison indoor public spaces. You can read the full order here.

Accommodations to this mandate are granted by express written permission of the University as determined on an individualized basis, considering reasonable accommodations due to a documented medical condition. If someone in your group needs to request a disability accommodation, please notify Brooke Norsted at brooke@geology.wisc.edu at least two weeks in advance of your visit.

See the Madison Metro Transit web site for route and schedule information.

There are public bike racks available outside the building. The closest bike share (Madison BCycle) station is at Union South, one block away.

Accessibility
The museum is located on a single level of Weeks Hall and is wheelchair accessible. Stools are available for visitors to use within the museum if needed.
